Position Description 

To perform, plan, and manage the necessary actuarial functions to meet Blue Cross of Idaho’s (BCI’s) financial and membership goals. Manage actuarial staff as assigned. Oversee the development of rating factors for all lines of business.  Ensure the development of product pricing, risk modeling, and support the training and professional development of the actuarial analysts. Provide support for the Large Group and Self-funded clients to include rate analysis, working closely with Underwriting and Sales. Maintain all rating models from both a regulatory compliance and actuarial basis. Provide necessary analysis and reports to Blue Cross Blue Shield Association. Oversee the Dental and Vision lines of business for rating as well as product development.

Position Requirements 
 

Required Experience: 
• Six years actuarial to include four years within the health insurance industry
• Two years supervisory/management or acting in a leadership capacity

Required Education:
• Bachelor degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Industrial Engineering, Computer Science, Economics or equivalent area
• College level mathematics and statistics must include calculus, statistics and/or numerical analysis

Required Certifications/Licenses:  
• Associate, Society of Actuaries (ASA)

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs):

Skills: 
• Detail-oriented
• Verbal and written communication
• Microsoft Word – Intermediate 
• Microsoft Excel – Intermediate 
• Microsoft Outlook - Intermediate

Ability to: 
• Program proficiently in at least one computer language
• Understand programming system logic to analyze data and reports related to complex health data
• Analyze and resolve complex issues pertaining to insurance pricing, experience monitoring, reserving and forecasting
• Clearly and concisely communicate highly technical issues
• Work with all areas of a company to develop and implement sound financial and administrative practices

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Fellow, Society of Actuaries (FSA) or commitment to attaining FSA

The purposes of Cigna's Actuarial Executive Development Program (AEDP) are to (1) attract and retain high-caliber actuarial professionals who will perform financial and actuarial functions and (2) facilitate member development in pursuit of attaining senior level managerial and leadership roles throughout the organization. Qualifications
 

Qualifications

  • Must have a bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent work experience
  • 3.2 GPA or higher is preferred
  • 0-4 years professional work experience
  • Successfully completed at least one SOA examination
  • Outstanding problem-solving, analytical and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Possession of a strong desire and demonstrated ability to lead
  • Drive to develop business and actuarial skills through ongoing training and varied rotations
