This has been awarded to Dr. Heaton. His proposal is to offer an experiential learning class for students to participate in Kaggle competitions. The class will enhance student portfolios and will be available to dept majors who have completed Stat 330 and will also include interested Master’s students. The Data Science Faculty Fellowship provides a $4,000 annual salary stipend for two years, the Kaggle class will be part of his regular faculty teaching assignment, student wages will be budgeted for the student mentors, and student travel will be budgeted for top students to attend a professional conference and short course.
