Distinguished Donors
The scholarships described below are made possible by donations from the following individuals and families. We are grateful for their valuable contributions and continued support of the students in the Statistics Department.
Russell C. Richards Scholarship
Russell C. Richards received his Bachelor of Science in statistics and pursued graduate studies in statistics at BYU. He worked for the State Board of Regents as the Director of Systems and Institutional Research. He passed away from cancer at a young age. This scholarship was established in his memory.
Alvin C. Rencher
Alvin C. Rencher was a well-recognized professor whose work in linear models allowed him to publish three textbooks with the leading statistical publisher. Even with this notoriety, he was remembered for his concern for individual students as well as encouraging all with whom he came in contact. Recipients are encouraged, though not obligated, to contribute to this fund in the future should their circumstances allow.
Elrod C. Leany
This scholarship was created to honor Elrod C. Leany.
Bahr Family Scholarship
Michael Bahr started his career at Ricks College (now BYU-I) and transferred to BYU where he completed his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in statistics. Michael and his wife, Tamara, have established this scholarship to assist statistics students transferring from BYU-I to BYU.
Wickes Family Scholarship
Gene and Gwen Wickes have earned multiple degrees from BYU. Gene is a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries and a member of the Conference of Consulting Actuaries. The Wickes Family Scholarship was established to help undergraduate students who are majoring in actuarial science and showing academic progress. Recipients are encouraged, though not obligated, to contribute to this fund in the future should their circumstances allow.
Alumni and Faculty have donated to the Statistics and Actuarial Science Scholarship funds. Recipients are encouraged to maintain the same spirit of giving by adding to this fund if their circumstances allow.
