American Statistical Association's ENVR Data Section Challenge

Congratulations to Ryan Whetten, a BYU Statistics undergraduate student whose team was recently awarded 1st place in the ASA’s ENVR Data Section Challenge.

Their project involved using functional data analysis tools to explore high-dimensional assimilated spatiotemporal atmospheric satellite data (aka "reanalysis data"), and then relate it to longitudinal Great Lakes water level data. They created an RShiny app to assist in visualizing our results. Their RShiny applet and manuscript can be viewed at the following link:

This team has been invited to present their results at the ASA's ENVR Workshop in Provo, UT October 1st, 2021. Congratulations!
