How to remote desktop

Mac OS X

1. On the computer you would like to remotely control, open "System Preferences" by clicking the Apple Menu located in the upper-left corner of your desktop
2. Open "Sharing" settings
3. Check the box next to "Remote Management"
4. Contact either the full-time or student CSR and we will install a copy of Apple Remote Desktop on your computer

Windows 7/8

1. On the computer you would like to remotely control, open the Start Menu, right-click on the My Computer icon and select "Properties"
(note: your computer may have a name different from "This PC")
2. From the left sidebar click "Remote settings"
3. Choose the option to "Allow remote connections to this computer" then click "OK"
4. Find the IP address for the computer by opening the Start Menu, type "CMD" in the search box, and click to open the application called "cmd"
5. Type "ipconfig" into the Command Prompt window and press Enter
6. Look for the computers IPv4 address and write it down, then close the Command Prompt window
7. On the client computer (the one you will using to remotely access your desktop), open the Start Menu and search for "remote desktop" then click to open the "Remote Desktop Connection" provided with Windows
8. Enter the IPv4 address retrieved earlier from the ipconfig command and click connect
9. Enter your Windows username and password
