Stat 495R "Experiential Learning with Kaggle"

This is a new class that is being offered Fall semester 2020. This is a great opportunity to expand your skill set!

Course Description: Kaggle is an industry-leading platform for data science and predictive analytics competitions. Further, as an online community for data scientists, Kaggle also offers open data sets, introductory courses and kernels useful for honing data skills. In this student-directed course, students will learn how to implement basic skills to be successful in Kaggle competitions such as data wrangling, text analytics, statistical modeling and machine learning. Further, students will enter various Kaggle competitions in small working groups as well as develop a personal portfolio of data science products.

Learning Outcomes: By the end of this course students will:

  • Implement basic predictive models and algorithms
  • Compete in several Kaggle competitions
  • Develop teamwork and leadership skills
  • Develop a personal portfolio of data science products

Prerequisite Classes: Stat 330 AND Stat 223
